Rings Thing #6 Today's Rings Thing: Do you have a favorite race among the denizens of middle earth? If so, which, and why? Do you identify with that race? Is there a race which you either dislike, or have no feeling for or don't feel you understand sufficiently? If you are a writer, which do you prefer to write (if any)? I don't think this will come as a surprise to anyone - the elves are my favourite race. I am fascinated and totally in love with the whole idea of them - their immortality, their beauty, their perfection (I've always been interested in the idea of perfection, and trying to work out what it is, exactly.) I feel that they were maybe not explored enough in either the book or the movie, and the more I 'learn' about them the more I want to know. I think that the fanfic I read has definitely influenced me as far as my feling for the elves is concerned - most of the fic I read involves them in some way. I know it seems that I just like them because they're pretty. They are pretty, and yes, a certain blonde archer elf is hot, but that's not the only reason I like them. I sound like every obsessed squealing fangirl now, but it's really true. I can't say I really indentify with them - not exactly immortal or incredibly beautiful or thousands of years old here. I think I can maybe understand the being in the world but not of it thing. Is that what I mean to say? It's 2:10am, I apologise for the suckiness of this. I wouldn't say theres a race I actively dislike - they all have their interesting aspects, even the orcs. I suppose I find the dwarves vaguely annoying, but it's probably because I don't really understand them. I don't write, or haven't yet, I should say. I think I'm building up to it. I have complex (read - arrogant) self-confidence issues. I think the elves would feature prominently in anything I did write though ;) <3 |
