we have a windchime and we're going to use it Looks like I'm getting out of the habit of updating every day again. I prefer to update at college anyway - apart from the fact that I feel more anonymous here, they have a broadband internet connection (when it decides to work.) I don't think it's actually called broadband though - it's something like a mega-kilo-bit-net-link-stream-LAN-ethernet-spiffy-quick-technical-term connection. Whatever, it's fast, okay? I don't like the summer. Of course I like the time off college, but I don't like the hot weather. I love clear days with blue sky and only a few clouds, but I prefer it if they're not that hot. I also hate it when it's hot at night, because I can never get to sleep. I've no idea how people who live in climates where it's hot all year round cope, but I suppose they're used to it. I learned something about Arizona the other day - not only is it a desert state, but Phoenix (which I think is the main city) wasn't any sort of dwelling already - somebody just decided that they wanted a city, and there was this huge empty bit of land, so they built it there, and the rest of the state presumably grew up around it. That's why it's called Phoenix, apparently - 'phoenix from the ashes'. Yes, I am bored. I was worried about my sociology coursework, but it's more or less sorted out now. I don't have to do it over the summer, we're doing it when we come back in September. I have to give questionnaires to ten women and ten men, and interview one man and one women. Which is a hassle, but I don't really mind. Hey, it's not like I have to work for my living. Our next-door neighbours have a windchime. That isn't a particularly noteworthy fact in itself, I know, but bear with me. It used to be near their gate, I think, but now they've moved it so it's closer to the back of our house, so it's keeping my brothers awake. I don't sleep on that side of the house, so I can't hear it, but my parents are becoming slightly obsessed. First they were going to buy a windchime and put it somewhere to disturb the neighbours (two windchimes are more likely to keep us all awake than just one, but that's not the point for them I don't think.) Now my father has actually called the police, and they came round today and he gave a statement. Someone was probably getting beaten up across town, but the police had to come to our house on account of an illegal, nuisance windchime. The Officer in Charge of Windchimes, I assume, told my father that if they went around to the neighbours and told them to take it down and they refused, there was nothing they could do about it. Dad told me this as if he was very surprised. <3 |
