laughter in the dark

addicted? me?

I can't believe how slow this computer is. This is supposed to be some high-speed insert-really-technical-impressive-sounding-name-here connection, but it's even slower than my 56k 128mb piece of crap at home. I despair.

I'm playing with the idea of possibly maybe setting up a fanlisting. I'm getting addicted to them again. I haven't finished joining yet (nowhere near) but I don't want the page to take an age to load, so I'm not sure what to do. I've seen those little javascript pop-up windows on 'proper' sites which would be an answer to the problem, but I've got a feeling they wouldn't work on Diaryland. Not sure where that feeling comes from, because I know substantially less than fuck all about javascript, but I have it all the same.

Anyway, I thought of setting up fanlists for After You'd Gone (which I would have to say is my favourite book ever) A Little Princess *nostalgia*, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland *more nostalgia*... I haven't really decided yet, I think I should just go with one at a time in case I find it harder than I'm expecting. Now that I've seen quite a few *ahem* it doesn't look that hard. I could figure it out - it would be a learning experience, and you can never have too many of those. I'm aware that these aren't likely to be the most popular listings on the network, but I wouldn't want to be dealing with 50 emails a day anyway. I mostly want to set them up so I can join myself *g*

So, if this ever gets past the up in the air stage and makes it into actual solid html, I'll post the URL(s) and you can go and laugh at my pathetic efforts. And join. That'll be required. Only it won't, no, don't worry.

Today I managed to injure myself with my lever arch file - I caught my finger in it as I was closing it. People injure themselves with sofas and things though, so I suppose it's not that bad. That clip thing is quite vicious now I come to think about it - I'm surprised I've remained unscathed this long.

I'm happy today because my brother downloaded a peer-to-peer filesharing utility, Ares, which *crosses fingers* actually works. This is a first for me. I came to late for Napster, had no luck with Audiogalaxy, didn't want the Kazaa spyware... so I've got about 30 or so mp3s to show for two years' online time. I downloaded a few with it last night and it was great. It's a bit slow, and crashed a few times, but I expect that's the fault of my aforementioned piece of crap. It has no ads either, oh joy and insane high-pitched giggling.

Lastly, I am aware that I am jumping on a very crowded bandwagon here, but YOU HAVE GOT TO BE HAVING A FUCKING LAUGH. I MEAN, HONESTLY.
