something from nothing So, I uploaded the first chapter of whatever the hell this thing is that I'm pulling out of the depths of my unconscious. The general plot is actually a recurring daydream of mine - all I can say is that you'll be further convinced of my insanity the further you read. If you do read it, that is. It took a while for it to occur to me that I could actually use this as a plot for my novel, but I think it does have possibilities. Most importantly, it interests me. People say 'write about what you know', but I think 'write about what you're interested in' would be a better rule. I certainly couldn't write about something that bored me to tears. Anyway. It's there if you want to read it. I should be starting Chapter Two now, but I'm in the college library and there's a lot of noise going on around me, a bit too much for a library I think. I really need silence to write (fiction, not diary entries) and I need to be alone too, preferably. Can other people write with so many distractions? I find it really difficult. Reading a few (not too many - I'm afraid of unconscious plagiarism. And also finding that everything on there is better than my offering) novel excerpts on the NaNo site has made me even more sure of things I already knew - I strongly dislike first person narrative (though of course there are always exceptions that prove the rule) and that swords 'n' sorcery do not automatically equal 'good'. (I'm aware of the idiocy of slating other people's writing styles when my own may well be shite, thanks). Diary banners are a blessing and a curse. The last few weeks or so I've found a lot of interesting diaries which I can ever seem to find when I go looking for them myself - whn I click on a random name in the member's area it's almost always a twelve year old writing about what happened at school today and Claire fancies Tyler and lol lol lol!!1 However, I've found some really well-written diaries through the banner ad thing. The other side of the coin is that my profile is a terrible mess. I think I'll redo it today, that way I can put off writing Chapter Two for a least half an hour ;) <3 |
