rings thing I'm a day late with this, I know, but it isn't for want of trying. I couldn't get online last night at hime, so it had to wait until today. I'm at college now, you see. I'm going to try to participate every week from now on. That's my end-of-year resolution. About the voices: do hobbits and elves and everyone else sound like you had imagined? For example, do hobbits sound 'hobbity' (or whatever the word is)? What about the Ringwraiths? Ah, good. I don't have to think about this one. (In the nicest possible way, of course). I've said from the beginning that FotR was possibly the best cast film I've ever seen. There was no character who seemed 'off' for me, I wasn't sitting there at any point thinking 'humph, you can't expect Hollywood to get it right anyway'. (Except for the Arwen thing, but I won't go into that now). I admit that I was very worried before I saw it that the characters would have American accents, which I'm afraid would have ruined it for me, I wouldn't have been able to get into it at all. That's not to say that I despise Americans or American culture, because I don't. However, the triology was written by an English author and IMHO having the characters speak with the accent and/or usage of another country would have ripped the soul out of it. I don't know if anyone understands what I mean by that. I've rambled. I'm trying to say that I loved the accents and voices of all of the characters, almost without exception. Frodo's voice in particular was a joy to hear and I think Elijah Wood deserves all the praise he's had for the interpretation of the role. I have to day that I wasn't entirely sure about Pippin's Scottsh accent at first, but only becuase it hadn't occured to me before, and it grew on me very soon. I could understand the reasoning behind it, as the Tooks are supposed to be somewhat separate from the rest of the hobbits in Hobbiton. As for the other characters - Gimli was gruff and dwarf-like, Legolas's voice was light and ethereal as I expected (though I did think the Lothlorien elves sometimes sounded as if they were asleep). Can't say I remember how the wraiths sounded, but they were scary so they must sounded good. I'm very conscoius of the fact that I haven't seen the movie since it came out, and I only saw it twice then - I don't really feel worthy of the title of shrieking fangirl. Oh well. <3 |
